HOUSE IN AOBADAI

This residence is located in Aobadai, next to Daikanyama, one of the busiest and most fashionable areas of central Tokyo.

House in Aobadai consists of two volumes: the northern one is smaller and glazed on top; from the transparent roof down till the entrance hall natural light is funneled in the interiors and reflected on the walls. The southern exposed block is bigger, its steel roof opaque.

A wide garage on the ground floor accommodates four vehicles and the laundry is adjacent to cater for the client’s, a car lover, sweaty works. On the same level are located all the private spaces and their related services, whereas the living quarters are on the upper floor. Here two terraces are designed so that interiors are naturally bright and well ventilated. Further minimal subtractions from the building volume act as light wells, such as the quiet rear terrace that brings light into the bedroom on the lower storey.
